
Finca las Cataratas is in a rainforest area. Due to the high precipitation and moderate temperatures, this region has a vast biodiversity: over 1,300 plant species, 350 bird species, 57 mammal species, 66 reptile and amphibian species, and 274 butterfly species.At least five species of felines stand out: jaguar, puma, margay, ocelot, and the clouded leopard. A significant number of endemic species have been collected in the area, including at least 15 plant species that are new records for science.It is an ideal space for research and teaching, especially on ecology and biological diversity. Based on the area, it is estimated that more than 300 scientific publications have been produced.The area where the farm is located has a large number of nearby biological reserves, such as Alberto Manuel Brenes, Bosque Eterno de los Niños (private), Juan Castro Blanco National Park (public), Roca de la Paz Nature Reserve (private), and Bosque Eterno de los Niños (private); it also has biological corridors like Montes del Aguacate and Paso de las Nubes.Finally, the farm has water springs and hydrographic basins.
